Postdoctoral Research Associate

Environmental Change Institute

Alberto joined OPSIS in October 2024. His research centers on analyzing the interdependencies between various transportation and energy systems, aiming to identify strategies to strengthen the resilience of these networks in the face of climate stressors. He applies dynamic network analysis and flow models to understand how disruptions in one sector can cascade through others, potentially leading to systemic failures. His goal is to develop holistic adaptation plans that not only mitigate risks but also promote long-term sustainability and robustness in critical infrastructure systems.

Before joining ECI, Alberto worked at IHCantabria, in Spain. He holds a PhD in Coastal and Environmental Engineering from the University of Cantabria, where his research centered on developing adaptive and flexible strategies for coastal and port infrastructure facing climate change. His work emphasized a complex risk perspective, accounting for the dynamic and interconnected nature of environmental, social, and economic factors in crafting resilient adaptation plans.
